Summary: D&S has released an upgraded motor shaft fastener kit and new best practices for preventive maintenance checks to improve long-term performance and reduce the risk of hardware loosening.
What’s Changing
As of February 2025, D&S has updated the motor shaft hardware used in production. Previously, shafts were secured with a grade 8 bolt, Loctite, and a set of washers threaded into both ends. In some cases—particularly on carriage motors—these bolts loosened over time, potentially leading to shaft or motor damage.
The new standard hardware includes:
A long set screw
A serrated nut
Loctite threadlocker
This combination provides stronger thread engagement across all motor types and improved long-term durability based on bench tests and field performance.
Upgrade Kit Available
